a rainy day at MoMa

Rainy days are my all time favorite!
So when I woke up to the pitter-pattering of lots and lots of rain on our last day in New York, I was one happy girl. The snow and hail from the night before had mellowed into a rainy day, which made it a perfect time for a museum visit. And since we visited a fine arts museum last Valentine's day (here), we figured we would see some modern art this time around.

While we're not normally the biggest fans of modern art, MoMa is so well done. It's massive with six floors and each floor is organized into a time period/style of art. Plus, MoMa features quite a few of the modern classics with artists like Van Gough, Dali, and Picasso. Add in a few Jackson Polluck's and a little bit of Andy Warhol, and you've got yourself a fun date for a rainy afternoon.

Obviously, our first top of the day was to see Van Gough's Starry Night. We were surprised to also find Van Gough's The Postman and even more impressed with it than Starry Night
Would actually have loved some soup on this rainy cold day.
Maybe Warhol was just a little bit hungry?
Stumbled upon these teeth being featured in "these are 10 useful objects that no one should be without while traveling". Had to laugh because of course it's true, but also ridiculous. Also had to laugh because this drawing is the worst and super anatomically incorrect. And the dental student in me was a little bit appalled. But, hey it's modern art, maybe they meant to do a bad job?
A few favorites being featured here came from artist Francis Picabia. He is responsible for the photos above and below if you can believe it? Never has there been an artist to have such a dynamic style. Loved how the gallery was set-up like a timeline and you could follow his life and the evolution of his work.
I don't know that we fully appreciated all the art being displayed at MoMa, but we definitely walked away from this stunning place a bit more cultured with an altered perspective.
